Lake Cahuilla (Ka-wee-ah) Oct 26th-29th
This campground is nestled in the valley below the Santa Rosa Mountains, and was not only beautiful, but had great amenities. The Lake was not clean enough to swim in, as the water was filled from an aquaduct from Colorado. There were also an enormous amount of fishing going on, and the tackle was all over the bottom of the lake. The benifit of this was that it did provid lots of kayaking time for Na-Na and the boys. This is Valin's first solo trip out onto the lake, and upon reaching his intended destination, he decided to take a "rest".... Of course it only lasted about 2 minutes, but he was happy :-)
We may have not been able to swim in the Lake, but the boys memorized the schedule of the sprinklers :-)
You can barely see the kayak on the right hand side of the lake... This was one of those trips that had me a little nervous, because they were soooo far away. Blayde decided to take Drake on a leadership training trip across the Lake. They took water, food, jackets and fishing gear for their 2 hour excursion. I might add, that the planning was all on their own!!
Blayde and Valin..... Paddling away......
Sunset here was always early due to the surrounding mountains, around 4:00pm, but was breathtaking just the same. The campground could be in the dark, while areas further in the valley across the lake were in full daylight.
